The Practice of Lent
Lent is a season of preparation, fasting, and repentance ahead of the celebration of Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts for 40 days through Holy Saturday, the Saturday that precedes Easter Sunday. The 40 day season is derived from Jesus’ 40 days spent in the wilderness, where he endured the temptation of Satan and prepared for his public ministry. Sundays during the season of Lent are excluded from the season since every Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
We were made for seasons, so we want to be a people who are mindful of the opportunity we have in Lent to focus on personal and communal preparation, repentance, and renewal. During this season, we will be sending out daily emails and text messages with a short note to center us on the work of Christ and the practice of repentance to which we are called.
To sign up for daily text messages, text WRLENT to 84576. Texts will be sent out around 7am on weekdays and 8am on Saturdays. There will be no texts sent on Sundays.
