Congregational Reading - from Romans 5:1-2, 5

Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

A Back to School Litany (Congregational response in bold)

As we embark on this new school year, we know that it will hold joy and frustration, success and failure, happiness and grief.

Help us, Lord, to place our trust in you.

Lord, we ask that you use this season to continue to form our children in your likeness, that they might carry your love throughout our community.

Help us, Lord, to place our trust in you.

When we send our children to school, we know they are in your hands. Lord, please make our schools places of learning, peace, and safety.

Help us, Lord, to place our trust in you.

In all we do, we want to honor you with faithful lives. Throughout this school year, may your name be glorified by our dependence on you.

Lord, be our rock and our refuge.

Prepared Prayer*:

God of grace and glory,
whether we are weak or strong,
old or young,
struggling or flourishing,
help us to see Jesus, our risen Lord.
Give us joy in the knowledge that
your Spirit unites us with Jesus,
helps us cross over from death to life,
and strengthens us to live and abide with you
both now and forever.
We pray through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
