Isaiah Series Reading Schedule

This Week’s Reading: Isaiah 13-19

Reflection Questions:

  1. What similarities and differences do you notice about the woes/judgments in these chapters?

  2. Towards the end of chapter 19, Isaiah mentions the Lord striking and healing Egypt as they return back to him from rebellion. How does this compare to your own times of rebellion? What about times of healing?

  3. Imagine if one of these chapters was directed towards our nation, you being a part of that.  Where do we need to repent and experience God’s cleansing? How can you confess and repent this week?

  2. Reflect on Isa. 8:11-22. Where had their fear been misplaced? Where has your fear and concern been misplaced recently?

Isaiah Series Reading Schedule

This Week’s Reading: Isaiah 1-5

Reflection Questions:

  1. What themes did you notice throughout these chapters?

  2. Think about the judgments and injustices as you read. Glance at chapter 5, verses 8-23. What about these woes strike you? What does Isaiah seem to be getting at?

  3. Chapters 2-4 describe the tension between who God wanted Israel to be and who she had become through sinful decisions and misplaced trust. Where are you currently living in this same tension? What is one step you can take this week that will bring you closer to the person God wants you to be?

A Blessing for the Beginning of the School Year
(Congregational Response in Bold)

Loving God, we pray for all students from our community as they return to their schools, colleges, and universities.

Be with them, O Lord

Bless them with a renewed energy for a year of learning and development. Give them the blessing of both new and renewed friendships. Ignite their creativity, broaden their horizons, and lead them in your way.

Be with them, O Lord

We pray for the teachers of our community as they renew their calling to educate and elevate their students. Help them to see your image in each of their students, and give them the direction to guide students towards wholeness.

Be with them, O Lord

Eternal God, we ask that you would make our schools to be places of scholarship, holistic blossoming, and all-encompassing safety. Would you go before, follow behind, and be alongside our teachers, students, and school workers, to the well-being of our community, and the glory of your name.

Amen

Our Portion (Psalm 16)

by Kyle Fischer

Lyrics:

As Exiles Long and search for a home
Wearied and laden by their loads
So also we look up with tired eyes
To you, our Lord and our God

O LORD, you are our portion and our God
Pleasant places you have set for us
And in the deepest of the night, your Word is at our side
O LORD, you are our portion and our God

When siren songs bid me come away
And find delight in shadows of the truth
I will remember what you have for me
With you there is joy forevermore

O LORD, you are our portion and our God
Pleasant places you have set for us
And in the deepest of the night, your Word is at our side
O LORD, you are our portion and our God

When goodness seems to fall away
You hold my lot secure
Apart from you there is no good
You show yourself to be the path of life

O LORD, you are our portion and our God
Pleasant places you have set for us
And in the deepest of the night, your Word is at our side
O LORD, you are our portion and our God

As death lays its blanket over me
And darkness covers up my eyes
You will not leave, nor will you forsake me
At your Word, death will die

O LORD, you are our portion and our God
Pleasant places you have set for us
And in the deepest of the night, your Word is at our side
O LORD, you are our portion and our God

Special Music
Still Waters
by Clayton Luckie
Lyrics:

Expectation is the cruelest thing, it wants to bleed you dry
Like the darkness of a long and sleepless night
It’s an overwhelming canvas fully covered all in white
It’s a million colors begging you to try

We race as if we’ve bound a thousand chains onto our feet
We’re the product of our ever pressing times
We buy up all the houses with our burning gluttony
Then we wall off all the closets in our minds

When we’re farther than we’ve ever felt from home
Empty-handed now with nothing left to show

Still waters
Still waters
We will find what satisfies in the peace that lay beside still waters

There’s a table set before us there, it holds a royal feast
And a chalice brimming with the finest wine
There’s rest for all our broken hearts, our weary hands and feet
And a freedom till the fullness of all time

A sufficiency like we have never known
Is waiting not much farther down the road

Still waters
Still waters
We will find what satisfies in the peace that lay beside still waters
Like an ointment for the soul, take my hand and we will go to still waters
