New City Catechism Q&A 1
Question 1: What is our only hope in life and death? That we are not our own but belong to God.
Certain hope is found only in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. However, kids’ hearts are often nurtured to place their hope either in themselves or in created things, rather than in the Creator. This question aims to help our children understand that they were made by God and for God. We should all put our hope in God as we come to him through the forgiveness won for us by the Lord Jesus Christ, and know that he alone is trustworthy in life and death. (Romans 14:7-12)

Zechariah Gave Hope (Zechariah)
Bible Story Summary: God’s people were rebuilding God’s temple in Jerusalem, but their neighbors wanted them to stop. So they stopped. God sent prophets to encourage His people to finish the temple. The prophet Zechariah gave a message of hope. He told them what God would do in the future. Zechariah said God would give His people a new King and set up a new kingdom.
Big Picture Q&A: Can God be trusted? Yes, God cannot lie or ever be wrong, so we can trust whatever He has said.
Christ Connection: Zechariah spoke a message of hope to God’s people. God would one day set up a new and better kingdom with a new and better King. God kept His promise by sending Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can have hope and forgiveness of sins by trusting in Him.
Family Discussion Starters:
Why did God’s people stop rebuilding the temple?
What message did Zechariah share with the people?
Family Activity: Work as a family to clean up an area of your neighborhood. Pick up litter, rake leaves, or plant flowers to beautify the area. Afterward, talk about how God’s people work to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. remind kids of God’s promise to build a new city that brings all nations together and heals all of creation.

God to the Rescue
Pg. 84-91 | Exodus 3-13 | Video
Introduction: Israel had fallen into slavery under the Egyptians. God worked through Moses to rescue His people. In this, God displayed His power so that both the Egyptians and Hebrews would know that He was God. The Israelites’ firstborn sons were saved through the blood of the lamb and they were able to escape Egypt. While the lamb saved them physically, Jesus is a greater “lamb” who offers eternal salvation.
Big Truth: God sent a Savior
Our hearts are broken and our world is broken. Because we can’t fix things, we need a Savior to make things right and restore relationships. Thankfully, God sent Jesus and the victory over sin and death is already won!
Activity: Sing “My God is so Big”. Explain that God is powerful and He used His power to rescue us, and to raise Jesus from the dead!

Noah and the Very Big Boat
This is the story God sparing Noah from the great flood! You can watch the story here.
Play: Name that Animal – Make different animal sounds and see if the kids can guess the animal it belongs to (ex. Monkey, elephant, dog, cat, goat, bear, tiger, etc.) Explain that even though the whole world was bad, bad, bad, God promised to keep Noah and his family safe through the flood. He kept his promise and then made another promise to never flood the earth again.

WRL Babies
God made me special.
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God made me special.” We showed the babies their reflection and told them how God made them special and there’s no one else in the world exactly like them. As you interact with your child this week, play with her feet and tell her how God made her feet so she can walk one day. Tell her how God made her ears so can hear your voice. Tell her how God has a plan for her that only she can do, because God made her special.
